2026 ain’t in the cards like I was hoping

I also, for the next couple of years, only have the summer months available for time off due to trade apprenticeship class time requirements

So I need to have all my shit ready to go before summer ‘27 or everything gets pushed back YET ANOTHER YEAR to 2028

Why is saving up 50k so damn hard mayne :feelsree: :feelsree: :feelsree: :feelswhy: :feelswhy: :feelswhy:

It may even be $70k by then.

You should really debtmaxx to do it ASAP in 2026 if there is any way at all that’s possible. Try to build your credit score up.

Even if you have to borrow $20k to do it next year, at say 20% interest (brutally high, probably less) that’s only $4k extra to pay back.

I can tell you now if I had the chance to pay $4k to bring back a year of my life, I would grab it with both hands.

Well let’s see

I will be ending the year with 30k saved

By summer 40k

If I really pushed how much OT I worked maybe 45k-almost 50k (and pushed the surgery date to later summer)

Then if I qualified for even a modest personal loan (which should be possible because I’ve been grinding my credit score for the past year) on top of that to serve as a buffer fund for potential revision + travel/hotel/food for a month in Turkey…

It could very well be possible

But holy shit that would be coming down to the wire and putting it all on the line

I would have to decide very soon (by early 2026 no doubt) to to get the ball rolling with RSM

:feelsuhh: I will decide after the new year. Time to wageslave like I never have before

Using 0% credit cards to increase your savings rate is extremely effective and you will boost your score to qualify for a bigger personal loan when the times comes. You might end up with access to a surprising amount of total overall credit.

The ones I use have 20+ months 0% promotions so you’d have a good long time after surgery to get your money up to pay them back before they start charging interest.

What job are you in anyways?

So I actually just now realized something that might be a saving grace here

Looking through the yearly schedule it turns out I actually have the last 3 weeks of Dec / first month of Jan off from classes every year too

I didn’t even initially bother checking for any potential surgery timeframes outside of summer because I was planning on just having a complete clean slate of total time off to fully recover before returning to the work / school grind

But in all honestly, as long as I can be recovered enough to physically have my ass in the lecture hall seat (even if as a puffy faced abomination) that’s enough. Consequences from missing work is “simply” risking a lay off from your current particular contractor and delayed program top out if you end up missing too many hours. Consequences for missing class however, even 2 or 3, is being straight up axed from the program

So if I target Dec 2026 and just stagger my return to work/school it could pan out pretty well. It would give me an additional half year to save and get my ducks in order (hell, I might not even need a loan at that point)

No to mention RSM prefers having the summers off anyways apparently :feelskek: :

This might actually be happening lads. Going with this angle gives me till summer to decide

Rooting for your and Clav’s surgery ascension in the meantime :feelsautistic:
