i think it works if your desire fits with your reality. A manlet janitor cannot be a model but he can get models by being rich enough, so he can be rich.
I mean not everything is possible.
Do you want fame by looks ? Maybe not possible but you can get fame with other sources in life.
Do you want women attention for your look ? Maybe it won't happen for your look but you can get attention by status.

Law of attraction states that if you have positive thoughts the energy around you will make everything positive for you vice versa. There are no scientific elements in this ' negative energy' thing as these guys claim.
But in one way, if you want a thing and you're positive about it, you'll get it because you work hard for that. That's it no metaphysical mumbo jumbo

Yeah chances are in today's world, you can get almost anything you want. Then, you only dream for things you can attain. For example an average looking Indian living in India cannot dream of getting Margot Robbie as wife because for his circumstances it's impossible for that. So he wish for something that's more really likely to happen.
But I'd advise you to keep believing because placebo stuff is real and is not yet explained why
