Leg press instead of squats?

I hate squats. Can heavy leg press also give me the same results?
I have 2 different machines at my gym, which one should i chose?

No. Squats are much better. If you just wanna get big, sure they work. But for proper strength, you need squats

Leg press is good but will you get the “same results” as squats? Hell no, squats are the king of leg exercises.

If barbell squats are uncomfortable try different variations, there are plenty.

Touch and go box squats where the only ones where i could really perform okay. Maybe its because of the added safety feeling and support of really sitting down.
You think this variation is less efficient than normal free squats?

Maybe better for explosiveness, worse for hypertrophy.

Bodybuilding doesn’t require squats. It’s actually quite a bad exercise for bodybuilding. It’s more for overall fitness and coordination


Legs press is much better for building muscle

And for which you should decide?


Neither. Just do one one training and the other the next. I’ve never seen the second one but if it targets roughly the same muscle you can just alternate.


You SHOULD alternate between exercises ANYWAYS. Or you will mostly train Intra and Inter musclular coordination. If you want to grow muscle you don’t want that to happen. never getting used to an exercise is the ideal aka changing up your workout routine

The real answer is that you should do both if your body permits; safely and without injuries. After my squats, I loved jumping in the leg press (the one you have in the first pic, but I'm sure the second one is also great), load up 3 or 4 plates on each side, and do single leg presses for the stability and equal involvement of both limbs.

Will using leg press attain similar gains to squats? Possibly, but the chances of that improve if doing the single leg variation and going as low as knee to chest or knee to armpit. Obviously the CNS involvement will never equal that of a squat, but you can still make good gains in the leg press if for instance squats hurt your back. Squats always hurt my back because of "butt wink" so I transitioned to front squats which allowed me to be mostly injury free. :whistle:
