The fact that a muscle in your eye is just a few millimeters too short is the reason for all the suffering and torment you face everywhere you go. For many of us it was so drastic and relentless during development that we began to internalize the cruelty inward and now even looking in the mirror is revolting. It’s insane to me how instinctual it is for humans to discriminate and hold prejudice against other humans simply because of the tiniest difference in anatomy. Realizing this has completely altered my worldview and convinced me that ultimately, all “morality” is just based off aesthetics. It’s gotten to the point where I notice a subtext in nearly every conversation where we equate what’s “right and wrong” with what appears “good and bad”. And the worst part is, I think this discrimination is too innate, too biological, too fundamental — too human —to ever be overcome. They hate us because they know the eyes are the windows to the soul, and so our souls must be broken. And so people with deformities will forever be exiled, forced to bear the burden of “fixing” themselves alone, instead of the world accepting them as they are, and if they can’t fix it, they are forced into their own solipsistic delusions and solitary escapisms to cope with the whole situation.
