BUT I have also had a situation where I fucked up and was really awkward

I got a legit weed hack. Take a massive rip and cough as hard and as long as possible. This will cause fainting, but you stay semi conscious if you stop to breath before you fully faint. The sensation is hard to describe, but I like it. I imagine heroin feels like that
