OPTIONAL: theme song for this thread:

My previous post was about how to detox them from the body: https://looksmax.org/threads/microplastic-detox-guide-high-iq.1300237/

Pre knowledge: Microplastics are small pits of broken off plastic particles under 5 mm in size. Microplastics can be absorbed by breathing, eating and skin contact.

Figure showing the ways we consume microplastics
1. Limit the exposure in your diet:

I am going to assume you are already eating a whole foods diet/ animal based/carnivore etc.

Water supply: STOP DRINKING FROM BOTTLED WATER ASAP, if you want to drink out of bottles find spring water in glass bottles. Microplastics and many other toxins are in the water supply, some countries have better water supply than other but to be safe opt for reverse osmosis water filtration system these can be expensive but they are the most important thing you should save up for ideally you want one that can be used for the entire house but as a starting point go for under the sink or tabletop just for water. If you can't afford a RO system in your house yet use the below methods.

Fill your own jug method: A cheaper method to get reverse osmosis water is going to a store that provides reverse osmosis water for example if you live in the USA go to whole foods and fill up there, find a store that can do that, ideally you want a glass jug but you could buy these bpa free ones, even tho they say BPA free they still could contain BPS etc, but it is better than nothing until you can afford a RO system. (This is the method I use personally i pay $6 CAD for about ~12 weeks supply of water), also for ease of access you can get a pump like this to easily fill up your water bottle. Make sure to keep your jugs in a dark area with no sunlight.

Mr. belmar method: Find local sprigs to fill up your water jugs

Rice: If you are eating rice be mindful because according to a University of Queensland study people swallow 3 to 4 milligrams of microplastics for every 100 grams of rice that they eat. I agree that rice is a food that you guys like for bulking etc, If you are not going to give up rice the study said washing rice reduced plastics contamination by 20-40%, so that will be your only protocol for rice, also wash to rice until the water is clear.

Himalayan Pink Salt: According to a 2023 study, himalayan pink salt contains significantly more microplastics than regular table salt and other sea salts. unfortunately 90% of sea salt brands in the world contain microplastics but the ones with the lowest is Redmond Real Salt this brand sources their salt from an ancient salt deposit in Utah, this paper found salt from Utah salt to have some of the lowest levels of microplastics.

Meat: Microplastics can be found in meat the protocol of this would be avoid store bought meat that comes in plastic wrapping, ideally find a butcher that cut the meat and gives you in a paper wrap, also aim for Grass fed grass finished organic meat,
Microplastic accumulates within the stomach of animals. So, seafood that includes a stomach, such as mussels, oysters and other filter feeders may contain more microplastics. Seafood is a bit tricky as larger fish tend to accumulate more microplastics go for smaller fish. (I don't eat fish personally).

Fruits: According to a 2021 study, researchers found that plants absorb microplastics through their roots and then transfer them to their fruit, leaves, and stems. The protocol for this would be washing you fruit under running water (in depth washing guide will be posted when i will make the estrogenic minimizing thread in the future)

2. Limit the exposure in your environment:

Air: Microplastics are in the air we breath, the protocol will be to get HEPA filters ideally where you spend the most time in eg. living room/ bedroom,
dust also can contain microplastics, so clean your house at least once a week. Make sure you get a HEPA vacuum cleaner as well. Open up your windows to allow for new air (make sure air quality is good outsize, check on weather app to see air quality).

also can buy a air quality meter to measure air quality inside the house
1738097117765

Shift to reusables: Coffee cups, take-out containers, milk jugs(try to find milk in glass bottles, egg cartons, clingfilm avoid, no plastic spoons, knives etc. opt for stainless steel coffee mugs, water bottles, use reusable non plastic grocery bags

Other household items: Japanesee wok brush to clean dishes, switch to wooden spatulas, glass storage with wooden cover is ideal,
hemp shower curtain,

Clothes: avoid polyester clothing, (polyester is popular in gym wear, when you wear polyester and sweat you absorb more microplastics) go for natural materials such as cotton, silk.

Avoid plastic containing cosmetics. A study of over 7,000 products in Europe found that nine out of ten products contained microplastics but most of these brands only women use, the rule of thumb is that more natural the product the better for example dr bronner for face wash, beef tallow for face cream.

Final verdict:
As said in my last post here it's pretty bad outlook as microplastics are everywhere, ideally you would want to live in like the woods or something and hunt your own food etc for true 0 microplastic exposure but as long as we do most of the things we can control we are good.

Next thread will be on estrogenic minimizing
