To be the best of the best in football you literally have to be a perfect decision maker

same for basketball

basketball is harder since you have to be tall or have an insanely high iq to compensate for height

But something that isn’t talked about enough is that iq is basically what differentiates you from everyone else

Also in sports like football (american) certain positions are only available to high iq athletes

such as quarterback (the one who throws the ball) since it’s always situational

situational iq is the real skill gap

football is all situational, literally everything.

Its not about high IQ its instinct. You gain instinctual decision making from doing something long enough. IQ tends to be very overrated. IQ refers to (in my words); brain neurogenesis performance or potential. For extremely high IQ individuals, this can sometimes be VERY crippling to skill and even motor function. Which is why high IQ tends to be associated with autism. People think IQ is skill but skill is a task that is learned and can always be. Talent is a matter of how interested you are at something. You learn a skill quicker and better when you have more talent than others (more interest in it than others).

If you play football you would know this. The core game revolves around general play setups, while hyper focusing on taking advantage of very quick opportunities which present itself. From a third person this looks like a drawn out intellectual stunt but in real life its a combination of instinct and skill. You dont know the better choice is to pass the ball to the left or run unless you have confidence in your skill to make that quick decision, and you know how the game works.

Just like how you go shopping youd know a good deal from a bad one with experience.
