1. You see in your vicinity, in real life (leaving the internet aside), people dumber and uglier than you being more successful at anything compared to you

2. You know you could have been in a totally different place, in a totally different circumstance and context only if you had made different decisions at one time, or if you weren't afraid to take a risk, just because you wanted to stay in relative comfort. They all add up, and they form regrets..

Some personal examples:

- I had the opportunity to have my 4th grade crush as my gf (she had asked me if I wanted to be her bf), but I refused (if I had accepted, I would have had a totally different experience and evolution on the intimacy side with girls)

- I refused to go to the church my crush went to in high school when she called me to go with her (if I had gone, I would have definitely ended up with her, converted to her religion, had a bunch of new friends from church, married her and had kids together by this age)

- I refused at 19 to go with a girl to the Netherlands (she was already working there), with whom I had a long distance relationship, to go to university in my home country instead, after we first met in real life and done stuff.. (my life would look completely different now if I did that)

None of this is worth harping on. Life is ongoing; that's one of the merciful things about it. Regrets are pointless. There's no point looking back and drowning yourself in your own despair over what you could have done differently. All you can do is use it as fuel to change your present and future. Just have to embrace and accept these memories because like it or not, they represent who you were and who you are, and you'll come to be gracious for the lessons you've learned from them.
