We agreed on the the same thing that a country doesn’t need to be democratic liberal in order to advance their science. The prime example are the third reich , USSR and China then we proceeded to discuss about democracy. He said he doesn’t think democracy is always the best system , he pointed out that
-It appeals to popularity , what most people agree on aren’t always right. He used a Socratic Ship analogy. A charming guy who is good at convincing people but never spent a day navigating a ship or a skillful sailor who aren’t good at promoting himself and convincing people. Which guy do you want to be the captain?
-Sometimes it’s too slow to be effective , it’s safe to have a check and balance system but in some situation it needs a swift and well coordinated decisions to deal with the emerging serious problem that isn’t well understood yet.

Then there were a group of young women sitting at the next table , they were talking about women’s health and their handsome boyfriends. After they heard our discussion. They looked at us with WTF faces.
