Why isn't lookism and looks discrimination cared about as much as racism?

Not at all.

The first true reason is due to lookism being less "categorizable" than gender or racial discrimination. You're either black or mulatto or white or man or woman. For looks theres much more grey area. You can have official identification saying your race or gender yet no "ugly" or "handsome" despite these being able to be obvious. Also theres a certain room for subjectivity when it comes to looks while theres not subjectivity when telling someones race or gender or sexuality. Tell several people to divide people in groups by race or gender, and the results will differ much less between the people who grouped them, than if you tell them to separate people into "ugly" and "good looking" group. While most of beauty is actually objective, theres a degree of subjectivity and grey area that there is not for the other subjects of discrmination. This is a reason why society doesn't seem to value it as much because of the increased "difficulty" to systematically discern members of a group.

The other reason is that lookism is the only type of discrimination that usually doesn't have an agenda behind it. It's a pure natural instinct that doesn't care about culture or ulterior motives. When any kind of discrimination has a certain agenda behind it, it's easier to out it as "discrimination" and turn people's attention to it, because of the association with said agenda and time of history values. Discrimination of blacks was associated with greedy money hungry bastards and with the time of slavery. Discrimination of women was associated with backwards stupid religious nuts and times of patriarchy. Discrimination of homosexual was associated with fanatic right wing idiots and the end of repression of the "atypical" sexual orientation. Discrimination of ugly people cannot be associated with any ulterior motive, excuse, culture, agenda, religious belief, gender, sexual orientation or time in history: it just is, and thats why also theres no "good vs bad guys" mentality that helps people root for the discriminated side when being exposed to it. For blacks it was "good guys blacks vs bad guys enslavers". For jews it was "good guys jews vs bad guys nazis". For women it was "good guys women vs bad guys patriarchs". But for ugly people there are not "sides", no culture, no story behind it, no "factions", no versus. It isn't similar at all to any other of the discriminations that happened within humanity, and it's completely unlinked to it's culture or environment: it's primal, subconscious. This other reason, like the lack of ability to classify as easily, is why lookism isn't taken as a serious -ism: lack of a clear objective or ideology to root for.
