One of the very first times I realized this was in 8th grade. This good looking kid named Chip would pick on this fat kid with a goofy haircut in passing in the halls. Like he'd say "what's happening, cupcake head??" and push him against the locker and his future chadlite friends would laugh and they'd walk off. The dork would look like a deer in the headlights any time Chip was close.
Well one day they got into it, idk how it even started. All I remember was Chip chasing the dork out into the middle of the football field and punched him in the back with a padlock that he used like it was brass knuckles. The dork was sobbing. People were laughing. And all the girls.
So they took Chip in to the principal's. But the school staff, who were friends of Chip's parents because Chip's dad was a big time donor to the school, all said that they felt he'd learned his lesson, even though no punishment was even given. And since all the girls liked him, they said he was probably just under pressure from school and that the other guy probably provoked him. Even this one teacher, a woman in her 20's told our biology class that nobody should feel mad at Chip.
Just crazy. Nuts even. Imagine where they are now. Chip last I heard is the president of a local marketing company and lives out in the west hills (the rich neighborhood, but that means nothing because I think he's in the house his parents and their parents inherited) and the other guy works at McDonald's.
Once the law is set it's set and it's set early.
