Looks matter question

I think everyone here agrees with me that looks matter, or that they are the most important thing. Now my question comes, why don't people just admit it? Is it to make themselves feel better and believe they have a chance at a girl? I don't think so, even my beautiful friends that get girls just because of their looks just say the "Talk nicely to them" , "Just get to know them" and the cherry on top "they don't care how you look". Is it to keep people to look ugly? Don't think so either, because most ugly people also say that looks barely matter. It's either ugly or beautiful people who say they don't matter, rarely average looking people. Now, back to my question. Why?
