Even the purest forms we think of are self gratifying and reflective in nature

for example the acceptance all of us here seek really serves to give you the sense strength and confidence, and those things serve to empower you

Less about power and more about stability, creating a stable unified identity you can delude yourself into thinking is just as real and holistic as the ground in the earth

I wouldn’t say power cuz power is a dynamic, it fluctuates between domination and submission
Power might be a more accurate manifestation of it but it’s not as steady as the ideal we’re chasing

But why do we want stability

In my opinion because that also gives us power, through a sense of confidence and self perception again

And to me power is just the ability to do what you want, and enact your desires and nature, put most simply, like a freedom to live as you are, except unlike freedom it affects the external world as much as your internal world

It depends whether a tree is content as it is, or if it desires more than it has like we do, expanding its roots because it wants to capture and dominate its surroundings

I find the 2nd one more likely

Yeah great analogy I agree, things are always trying to expand, but absolute expansion comes at the cost of agency, cuz agency is the ability to continue that expansion, although I suppose u could call it a compulsion, it’s still an activity
