I never bothered checking it out but the new m4 mac mini is an insane deal. 10-core CPU 10-core GPU and 16GB unified memory standard for $599. Take my money. These are specs that you can't get below $1000 on windows. I am mirin. It can also fit in my backpack easily.

It also runs macOS on a Unix-based environment, which is perfect for dev work especially for people like me who work CLI tools, Docker etc. I also dont do pc gaming so I dont care about that. The only real L is the 256GB storage, which is garbage in 2025 but you can patch that with an external SSD . I'm seriously considering picking one up- t's actually a beast for a coding setup.

Indeed it is a good deal for what it offers. But Mac's are not a good deal generally, they often have compatibility issues with certain software that make them difficult to use if you're not a writer or programmer they're very hard to use for workloads. Add to that the lack of upgradeability, apple products often have their ssd's and ram soldered into the motherboard that means if your needs in term of power of space ever change you'll be forced to buy either an external ssd, which is rather slow or change devices.

Gaming is also a topic in which Mac products fail at, despite apple trying to convince us a few years ago that gaming was feasible on their machines, it's very hard and requires use of a virtual machine.

If you're looking for a portable alternative that beats the mac mini in the sections that I've mentioned, I recommend you look up sff pc's. They're smaller computers who are very portable, can feature a full gpu are upgradeable and in my opinion are a better deal overall.

This is the cooj mq5 5.8 L.

it can have a deticated gpu.

If you're interested in these I recommend you pay a visit to r/sffpc on reddit, you'll find various examples of sffpc's and you'll find advice suited for your needs.
