For peak performance and price look into other laptops

For school stuff you don't need that high end specs, 10th gen intel (and the amd equivalent) should be enough, amd also makes good APU's (cpu and gpu in one) could be even cheaper

Lot of compatibility issues with Macs at my university, I'd get a Surface Laptop if you want a slim and lightweight computer, similar in price and perceived 'luxury'.
