While everyone else is chasing "get rich quick" TikTok BULLSHIT like dropshipping and day trading (which, by the way, are statistically going to fail if you're young), there's a legitimate, skill-building path that many young people are not abusing. If you're a teen under 18, please HEAR ME OUT.

You might be thinking, "Roblox? Isn't that just for kids?", and you're not wrong. However, the platform, despite often being seen as a game for kids, can make you lots of money.

If you're between the ages of 13-17, GET ON ROBLOX.

When I was younger, I was obsessed with Roblox, and that obsession eventually led me down game development. Beyond just playing games, you can actually build your own experiences and earn real money.

What Skills Can You Develop on Roblox?

The beauty of Roblox is that it's a platform where various creative and technical skills can be used. Here are the core areas in my opinion:
  • Programming: Roblox uses Luau, a modified version of Lua. While Lua itself is niche outside of Roblox, learning Luau teaches you fundamental programming concepts. These are transferable skills that lay the groundwork for learning other, more widely used languages. My own journey started with Luau, and it directly led me to a career in software engineering. (As a side note, you can program in Roblox with Javascript, or rather Typescript, but this is more advanced)
  • Animation: Roblox has built-in animation tools, but you can also use Blender. Learning Blender for animation on Roblox can translate to eventually making real work as Blender is used for indie game development or film-making.
  • Modeling: Just like animation, Blender is your friend here. Mastering 3D modeling within Blender, even if initially for Roblox, is highly valuable outside of it, again, game development studios use Blender, and it is also used in SFX or architectural design (although less commonly).
  • Art/UI Design: Imma be honest, I have no idea how this works but Roblox games, need good User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) design. This is also useful for web design, app development, and more.
  • Building: It's an option, although less scalable and technical, and sadly knowing how to make pretty maps and buildings on Roblox has very little use outside the platform.
  • SFX/Music: Creating sound effects and music for your games using software like LMMS develops skills in audio engineering and composition. Again, useful on various industries.

How to Turn Your Roblox Skills into Real Money

1. Offering Your Services (Commissions)

In my opinion, this is the most straightforward way to start earning. Platforms like Discord servers, Reddit communities, and the official Roblox Developer Forum are filled with game creators looking for talented individuals. You can:
  • Advertise your skills: Let people know what you're good at, whether it's scripting, building, modeling, or animating.
  • Take on commissions: Clients will contact you with specific requests (e.g., "build me a new map," "create this character model," "script this game mechanic").
  • Get paid: Once you deliver the asset or service, they pay you in Robux, or real money. NOTE THAT IT IS VERY COMMON TO GET SCAMMED IF YOU'RE NOT CAREFUL, and Roblox DOES NOT GIVE A FUCK, they have no business with the types of deals you make outside the platform.
This method is less risky than trying to create a successful game from scratch because you're providing a service with a clear deliverable and payment.

2. Creating Your Own Games - High Reward, High Risk

This is where the big money can be made, but it's significantly more challenging:
  • Develop a game: This requires a combination of the skills mentioned above. You'll need to design, program, build, and potentially animate your game.
  • Monetize your game:
    • Game Passes/Developer Products: Sell in-game items, special abilities, or access to exclusive content for Robux.
    • Premium Payouts: Earn passive Robux based on how much time Roblox Premium subscribers spend in your game.
  • However, there's an issue... The Roblox platform is saturated with games, many of which are cash grabs targeting children. To succeed, your game needs to be genuinely good or be a very smart cash grab. Even then, success isn't guaranteed. It's a tough, but the potential rewards are immense.
Back in the day I worked with an artist who did work for a relatively successful game developer, he actually told that the guy was making 3k/day from his games, which is around 1 million dollars a year, bigger games or amateur/professional studios in the platform are possibly making even more.

Cashing Out Your Robux: The Developer Exchange Program (DevEx)

Once you've accumulated Robux, you can convert it into real-world currency through the Roblox Developer Exchange (DevEx) program.
  • Minimum Exchange: You need a minimum of 30,000 Robux to exchange for $105 USD.
  • The Exchange Rate: The exchange rates on Roblox are ridiculous, but it is what it is. For example, to purchase 30,000 Robux directly, it would cost around $375. This means Roblox takes over 70% of earning. Although, being fair, they provide a platform and a user base.
  • My Experience: During my time as a Roblox developer, I personally earned about $300 through commissions. I believe I made even more total profit, probably around $4,000, from a "big" game I co-created with friends. However, when I was 14 I wasn't thinking of making money lmaooo, so much of that was reinvested into the platform or spent on in-game items. I still regret that shit.

Why Roblox is an opportunity

  • Financial Independence Without a Bank Account: Many teenagers don't have credit or debit cards. Roblox solves this by allowing you to earn and store "Robux" directly on your profile. It acts like a "digital bank account" until you're ready to exchange it for USD.
  • Building Real, Transferable Skills:This is the most crucial point. The skills you gain from Roblox development aren't confined to the platform.
    • Programming (Luau, TypeScript) leads to general software development.
    • 3D Modeling & Animation (Blender) are essential in game development, film, and design.
    • UI/UX Design is vital for any digital product.
    • Project Management, Problem-Solving, and Collaboration are all fostered when creating games, especially with a team. PERSONALLY, Roblox led me to learn Python and JavaScript, and ultimately guided me to study software engineering in college, and to do freelancing stuff eventually, I actually now have a job because of it.
  • Learn While You Earn: Instead of falling for "get rich quick" schemes that are statistically doomed to fail (like dropshipping or day trading), Roblox offers a unique opportunity to acquire valuable skills while simultaneously making money. LEARN SKILLS, THEN CASHOUT, you won't get that with TikTok funnels, Roblox is at least a more profitable method down the road.

If you're a teenager looking for a legitimate way to earn money, develop highly sought-after skills, and potentially even discover a future career path, Roblox game development is an option you absolutely need to consider.

That said, if you're +18, get a real job nigga.

4k total or 4k monthly?
4k total in REAL USD. 300 I got through comission work. Again, I was a little dumbass when I was younger, and didn't even have Developer Exchange for most of that time, so the majority of the profits I made was wasted on the platform itself and I never bothered to withdraw it.

If I'm not wrong the game itself must have made at least 8 million robux from total profits, which roughly translates to 28k dollars in the year or so the game was active. I was the founder of the game, but not the only developer, so others also got a cut of that, I think we were 4 developers, so assuming we split it evenly that's 7k to me.

Good enough for a shitty little game honestly

Don't fucking mess with me :lul: NO, I'M NOT SUGGESTING ANYONE PAST 18 SPENDS THEIR TIME ON ROBLOX MAKING MONEY. NO, I'M NOT SUGGESTING YOU WILL GET RICH ON ROBLOX.

But what I'm saying is that you can make relatively good money and on top of that develop valuable skills that you will utilize once you actually enter the workforce, you also don't have to deal with having to get a credit or debit card to actually earn something if you're really young or can't convince your parents. And comparatively speaking, Roblox is a straightforward and more secure way to profit than other bullshit naively targeted to young people. This is realistic, makes you money and benefits you in the long-term.

Like.. Inside Roblox? Yeah I guess, Roblox has partnered with either a few user-founded companies on from the platform itself, or from external brands, and they have created games within the platform, ironically enough, these games see very little success. Because of how the ecosystem of Roblox is built, creating a successful game (to meaningful degree) is very complicated, and not even big game developers have it figured it out. Making a game on Roblox and making money is downright impossible, from 2018 the situation has been the same, I haven't played the game in 2-3 years but I would assume it's still the case now.

However that isn't what I suggest, you should 100% do commission-based work if you're interested, there's always people willing to pay a skilled 3d modeler, programmer or animator for assets for their games. Plus again, it's not only making money out of it, but the skills.

You LUA is a very easy programming language to learn, it pisses me off not being younger and having this information, and it pisses me even more knowing that there's young people out there actually wasting their time, or even losing money on shit that doesn't work and that will not leave them with any marketable skill in the end.

Robloxmaxxing is the way for youngcels, it does take a minimum of dedication, IQ (to make the game or assets themselves of course, not necessarily create anything that the average 8yo can enjoy) and swallowing one's pride. I guess it's not as fancy for a teen to say they are Roblox developer instead of a Top G Entrepeneur Dropshipping Daytrader Coach, but one objectively leads to better outcomes.

also if u have a bit of skills u can start creating roblox scripts on popular games. ik some people who do this and they make 2 - 3 grand a month ( maybe higher if the game they choose gets a massive update ) basically they use ad links for people to get a key that allows them access to the script and for people who dont wanna sit thru 2 - 3 min of ad links they js have a paid script which normally costs ab 3 - 10 dollars so people buy it not thinking much

It's programming, you're learning a literal programming language (LUAU). So it's not impossible, but I won't lie to you, it requires consistency and being able to handle failure repeatedly.

Thankfully, LUA is very beginner-friendly, and now there seems to be more content than ever. Regardless, you shouldn't consider whether to do something or not based on if it's "easy" or not, nothing good in life will ever be easy.
