Everyone keeps talking about Usian Bolt's 100m dash but I've never seen people talk about Mo Farah's 10,000Km run. He completed it in 26 minutes..

1000036569

That put him at around 20mph which is bonkers. The Marathon running records are simply way more impressive because of the level of training, endurance and mental fortitude you need to complete them..

Ultramarathoner Scott Jurek broke the Appalachian trail record by running through 2,189-miles of rugged terrain in 46 days, 8 hours, and 7 minutes (that’s 47 miles a day for 46 days)

Ryan Atkins ran through 100 miles of grueling obstacles in only 24 hours in the World’s Toughest Mudder

There are many records like these. The level of athleticism needed for these records is insane. Humans were built for endurance. This is how our ancestors hunted mammoths and Saber Tooths. By tiring them to death.

I'd rather watch niggas run on TV than do it myself and age prematurely.

and sprinters running sub 10 in 100m isn't bonkers? When the average fit person would do 13+?

everyone knows Bolt but, I don't think many know Gatlin, Lemaitre, Gay, Blake etc who were all super athletes of that generation and would have competed for gold if not for Bolt.

in general, track sports don't interest many people, the viewer base is mostly those who competed in their youth in some sport

Just another lookspill. Those marathon runners have small Bones, very dry bodies with no muscle mass, while 100m dashers are big, jacked and look powerful.

it's probably the closest to what peak prehistoric hunter gatherer physique was like, since we'd often chase animals to exhaustion with our superior long-distance running ability

It blows people's minds when they understand the difference in levels when it comes to comparing elite athletes to the general public. However what most people don't realise is that the gap between an average person and a genius is in whole another magnitude. The difference between Euler and some retard who can't do basic algebra. You could imagine the physical gap being something like a large, great river, whereas the mental gap would be the Pacific.

There's a very good quote about this from an unlikely source.

642. You can get an idea of the difference between the nature of physical and mental power by contemplating the notion of Special Nobel Prizes. A cripple throwing a ball from a wheelchair is not all that different from a top athlete doing the same thing — not even in the end result, ultimately (the athlete's ball will just land a few meters further). But a clinically retarded person tackling chemistry problems? Who would actually care to set that up and observe it? Not even clinical psychologists would care to do that. Do you see how much more vast mental inequalities are compared to physical ones? And understandably so, as I've already explained, since the brain is immeasurably more complex than any other organ in the body, and certainly more than muscles, bones and ligaments.

Yeah agreed (y) good thread.

Ironman/Triathlon/Marathon Competitors are probably the most Elite Athletes out there.Their Cardiovascular
Health must be Phenomenal

not very useful outside of that particular field. the best athletic abilities should have overlap with everyday activities. they are only elite in running away for a long time, but not even fast enough to escape. they will get knocked out by a high explosivity jock before they even manage to run 2 feet

that was back when i was 16, i could still do very decent in national / other smaller scale competitions if i joined a club but probably not olympics

There's loads of guys out there who show promise. I showed promise too in some physical and mental things. I've known plenty of people too with great potential, yet they went nowhere. The reason why every other person is not an Olympic athlete is that potential and actions don't always overlap. Arguably most potential is wasted, great or miniscule.

I could have been a contender

Built like hunter gatherers, small ectomorph body designed to do persistence hunting, so running after a prey on long distance until the prey who can run fast at first get tired and fall on ground
