Sept 4: Government blocks 26 social media platforms
Sept 8: Large protests in the capital and other cities, 19 people dead and hundreds injured.
Sept 9: Social media block lifted. The Minister of Home Affairs resigns. Officials' houses were burned and just now the PRIME MINISTER RESIGNED.

Additional context.

Before the social media was blocked, young people in Nepal were showing off the luxurious lives of officials and said their mass action was inspired by Indonesia.

2 shot right in the head while being recording during the Gen Z protest, Sep 8

The protests in Nepal in September 2025, led mostly by young people and students, began as a response to the government’s ban on major social media platforms. They quickly expanded to express anger over widespread corruption, nepotism, and poor governance. The unrest turned violent during attempts to storm the parliament, resulting in at least 19 deaths and hundreds injured. The government lifted the social media ban after the protests intensified, but many demonstrators continue to call for systemic reforms and accountability

Nepal's government palace in Kathmandu completely destroyed by fire.

All important government documents and archives burned in the building, including the offices of the prime minister and key ministers.

Singha Durbar is considered the largest palace in Asia: it had 1.7 thousand rooms and was built in 1903 as the prime minister's residence.

This feels like poetic justice. For over
50 years politicians in Nepal have siphoned off public funds to fill their own bank accounts while handing out key positions to their family members all the while having brutal corruption and comimiting brutal crimes against the people. Murders, rapes etc. These politicians got away with it all. What we're witnessing now is simply the explosion of decades of pent-up anger.

This is like saying it's low IQ for the U.S. to keep classified files in the Oval Office that's literally where important documents are supposed to be stored, in their designated office

If they could make a place for important files why not make 2 places?
