Your jaw was most likely not aligned properly to begin with and mewing triggered your TMD symptoms. If you had sufficient mobility in both jaw joints and a properly aligned bite, you wouldn't even have to make a conscious effort to try getting your entire tongue on your palate, it would automatically be up there and feel natural, painless and completely different than forcing it. I have the same issues after falling for the mewing bullshit in 2018. You should find a good chiropractor to identify the underlying functional problems and maybe also an orthodontist who knows what he's doing (e.g. splints)

Even both of the Mews said at one point that the molars are not supposed to be touching (yet in one video John also says that the molars should be lightly touching, but he's a dementia ridden boomer who is counting the seconds to the deathbed). this is an interesting concern. I have also found TMJ issues to be a bottleneck when trying to go hard with mewing/chin tucking/chewing even though I try to counteract it. also my left side is slightly more developed (longer ramus) yet that's where I get clicking
