I mean I understand where they’re coming from, in the sense that human beings will have the most affinity for people of their race. It’s just basic human nature. I even understand White people that are fighting against anti-White hatred or replacement in their homelands, similar to when African Americans fought against discrimination in the 1960s. Furthermore, I also recognize racial patterns that right-wingers seem to point out.
Regardless, people care too much about race in this whole Austin Metcalf case. I could see amongst Black folks, that this is possibly a reaction against the antipathy that some right-wing people showed against the deaths of George Floyd. Although, I don’t think the case ought to be radicalized, given that I don’t think this was premeditated.
All that being said and done though, I think it’s illogical to care this much about race, to the extent that people in regard’s to this case are doing. I’m Asian, and I frankly wouldn’t care if something happened to another Asian person. I mean I don’t wish harm on anybody, nor am I a sadist, but it seems illogical to care so much about something outside my scope. Of course, I recognize from a utilitarian perspective that a safer society for all, is a safer society for oneself. Otherwise, caring about individual injustice against Asians (in my case), seems counterproductive to my time and energy. You ultimately have only control of your own life (to some extent since a lot of life is predicted on environment, genetics, etc.), so it’s only rational for people for the most part, to act in their own selfish and narcissistic interest.
