this isn’t really a debunk but more of a explanation.
the problem isn’t the back camera or the mirror, the problem is your self perception.
you’re used to yourself in the mirror so when you go to the back camera you’re like “ew wtf nigga” but here’s why you shouldn’t worry
My personal experience
i learned to get used to back camera and inverted filter, i eventually realized that i look literally the same as i do in the mirror, even with it being inverted it’s literally the same damn thing. i definitely learned how to see myself in a different perspective and learned flaws that i hadn’t noticed before and now i do, even in the mirror. it’s actually very good to experiment that way so you can get to know yourself better, because the way you view yourself in your own head isn’t the same version of yourself anyone else will see you as, unfortunately, so it’s good to use this to your advantage so you can kinda see yourself outside your own mind.
what i did
i got to a point where i was taking videos of myself doing 360 everyday on the back camera before going out anywhere. i wanted to really find out what people were seeing. i tested this in different lightings, far away, up close, everything. now i have a pretty solid idea on how i may be seen. i also took time to compare my features to other people’s and take time to think about how i feel about those features on other people.
The problem i still have
i still struggle to imagine how people’s first impressions on my looks may be, it’s very hard to get that idea in my head, and sad enough is the fact that first impressions is what matters most, objectively.
so basically i’m trying to say
that mirror vs camera is a endless yet pointless argument, it’ll never get anywhere because it’ll never be accurate. the features you see yourself in the mirror or the back camera are accurate, but the real problem is your self perception, because you may think of your looks a certain way but other people may not.
