Is it possible to modify the position of the BSSO cut in order to preserve wisdom teeth?

To the people here that got a BSSO cut, did you preserve your wisdom teeth, were they already removed, did they never exist or did you have to get them extracted before/during the surgery where the BSSO cut was performed?

An example of how wisdom teeth and the BSSO cut can clash:

Yeah by having a higher cut it means wisdom theeth preservation, but the thing is that many surgeons won't perform it, unless skilled surgeon.

I had DJS without needing my wisdom teeth taken out. It depends on several other factors, not just the placement of the BSSO cut, whether you can preserve your wisdom teeth during this operation. Lower palate width and a need to place the BSSO cut elsewhere to maintain a good mandibular contour are two potential reasons for example. There are other factors determining where a BSSO cut gets placed that I don't know about but from what I understand the desire to preserve wisdom teeth is generally a lower priority. Even then my surgeon told me he decides during the operation if they can be kept in or not because certain things cannot be predicted beforehand.

Totally depends on your anatomy. But who cares about wisdom teeth anyways

You could always get implants to replace them later if you REALLY think it matters.

Were your wisdom teeth fully erupted tho? Because if they are fully erupted, I can't think of a reason for why they would have to be removed.

Yes I am getting it

An example of how wisdom teeth and the BSSO cut can clash:

Just ask for a inverted L osteotomy. It also comes with a much smaller nerve damage risk.

The bad thing is in case of non union, and the risk is much much much higher than BSSO, you will have a big problem.

There is a reason BSSO is done by every surgeon. The pros massively outweight the cons in this technique

They were slightly erupted. They caused issues a few times a year and over the years, several dentists floated the idea to me of having them removed but I wasn't inclined to. The surgeon said they would have space to fully erupt after the operation
