Money and status is a more niche thing than looks. Think of it like this:
90% of young hot women wouldn't bother dating someone who isn't young and hot
10% of them might be willing to compromise to some extent in the looks department if they got a better deal in the money/status department.
10% of that 10%, essentially 1% of women, might be willing to greatly compromise in the looks department as long as they get a great deal in the money status department. These are the hot women who are dating much older less attractive dudes.

Personally, I am of the opinion of doing whatever you can and using every tool at your disposal to win. Winning is getting beautiful women to fuck, date and ultimately reproduce with. Paying for it in some way or another is fine as long as you get a good deal, overpaying is not. Prepare for all eventualities, so if it goes downhill, you sustain minimal damage. That's it.

Concepts like "genuine desire" and "looksmatch" are flawed concepts.

Genuine desire, even if you get it, is unsustainable longterm even if you're a gigachad, due to the inevitable boredom, familiarity, deterioration of physical attractiveness and other factors that you can't escape. Plus, a lot of people put way too much emphasis on it, completely disregarding the fact that the man also has genuine desire for the woman. Men will fuck almost anything if it requires little to no effort and investment, but unless they think they got a good deal, any relationship will go down the drain. There aren't many 7/10 men dating 5/10 women longterm and being satisfied by it.

Looksmatch is also quite flawed. It has more to do with restraint of choice and settling, not actual desire or want. Getting your looksmatch, or someone below it, doesn't guarantee shit. An 8/10 woman that is together with an 8/10 man, when she meets an 9.5/10 man, she will desire sexually/romantically more than her partner. Whether she cheats or not is a different issue entirely and depends on many factors, but in her mind, make no mistake, she wants the other guy more. Same exact applies to men. Just because a man will fuck a 4 at 2am once in a while and date/marry a 6, doesn't mean he doesn't want a supermodel. He wants the damn supermodel, he just can't get it, his wife/girlfriend was just the hottest he could get. Or maybe he can do better, but he is neck deep in risk(marriage, no prenup, stands to lose millions/billions and his kids in a divorce etc.). You get the point.
