I have noticed some tendencies that strike me as “amateurish” in Anime.
One off the top of my head is their insistence on over-explaining concepts that should be explained in subtler ways.
A quick example that I feel typifies this “flaw”is from the series Death Note
the anti-hero and his antagonist are clearly written to have a dichotomous relationship with one another. The antihero is a handsome and desirable well-put-together secret psychopath and his antagonist is a hermitish and sloppy weirdo. They both are each other’s equal and share many qualities, but their moral code stands in stark contrast to one another.
instead of allowing the viewer to form this opinion, the dialogue constantly goes out of its way to point this out in great detail, with onlooking characters saying thing like “they look so different, but they are both so smart. Furthermore, many concepts, character relationships and plot points are consistently over explained to the point that it compromises the integrity of the show’s verisimilitude.
This is a writing style that I find to be pervasive in Japanese media
