op's right, it is extremely easy to get away with murder provided there's no connection for police to discover. but most murders are not committed for no reason, and if they are random, the person will slip up eventually because they can't stop.

the only class of people who have consistently gotten away with murder are soldiers and assassins in short people doing it because it is good and necessary, not because they enjoy it. with serious resources and planning behind each assignment. and you should operate like that if you want to get away with murder.
