Child mortality was extremely common before modern medicine. Almost 1 in 2 children died before reaching puberty
Life in nature was often brutal and short for many people. Historically many young men would have died hunting, or in wars, or from disease, before they could ever have the chance of reproducing
Today we see so many NEETS and hopeless men who are only alive merely because of the comforts of modern civilisation
I honestly think most of us were never meant to live past our 20s or even teens. Nature would have found a way to weed out the weaker members
