my lips are always sealed however my jaws resting position is slightly open and im wondering if that would give the same effect as mouthbreathing, as from what i know what makes you recessed isnt breathing through your mouth but rather putting unnecessary tension on the muscles which pull back the bones.

not nearly as bad as jawbreathing

It might contribute to recession but smthing like 10 000 times less than if you mouth breath

I know, the thing is i'm not entirely sure if they're 1-2mm apart as i can barely fit my tongue through the gap so i think thats more, thats what i meant
So ur basically saying you think your teeth are apart by more than 2mm? Bc if they are naturally more than 2mm, it’s means you have a bite problem, and if not fixed it can have some of the same side effects over time as more breathing posture

yes HOWEVER it's not my natural mouth resting posture. i simply open my jaw a little further because i tend to bite my cheeks because of stress, my natural mouth resting posture is definitely 2mm

Ok then I wouldn’t worry, it’s only a big issue if you have no choice to do it due to whatever reason

You are not supposed to bite just let the upper teeth lay on your lower. You tense the jaw during the whole day by eating and talking anyways.
still i think having them closed isn't good for your masseters and can also make you grind your teeth in your sleep, the ideal jaw resting position is 1-2mm apart. if you fully relax your jaw you'll notice it automatically opens
