it in fact makes you look bigger because you literally are wider with muscles

the only case where you may appear shorter due to having a stocky build is if youre alone in the picture. add some people next to you and the illusion of being shorter is gone

I don't know, man. My cousin has roughly the same height as me (5,11), but he is never called tall, while I am called that a lot. Skinny guys look like sticks and are less shapely, which is why they are seen as taller.
