IMHO, looksmaxxing is simple and has always existed. People have known for ages that being overweight is not considered aesthetic, and people with facial recession have been undergoing surgeries like Le Fort I, genioplasty, and BSSO for years because of it.

When I was in middle school and high school, my peers were doing the same kind of softmaxxing you see today, combined with puberty, and we just called it a glow up.
