We used to joke about not even thinking twice about an abortion if either of us got pregnant in our 20s (a bit morbid I know but hey, we’re both pro choice). But alas, she fell pregnant this summer and has decided to go through with it.
Her (24F) baby isn’t due till March, but I (24F) already feel like mourning the loss of our 13 year friendship. Despite my efforts, we already distanced when she got her first ever boyfriend (29M) around 18 months ago, mainly because he’s an insecure, controlling asshole. And her having his baby will probably be the final nail in the coffin for our friendship.
I will never tell her this, but I firmly believe she’s about to ruin her life. She was so fun and adventurous before getting a boyfriend, and now having this baby means she’s dropping out of university and her plans to travel are wiped too. Instead she’ll probably marry and spend the rest of her life in our hometown.
Outwardly I’m supportive, but inside all I can feel is sad for her, and her excitement tells me maybe we have much less in common than I originally thought.
