Thinking of this because I recently watched the documentary, available on Prime, Behind the Curve. Clarification: I am not saying the conspiracy I propose is true, just that there is a significant possibly of it being true, like 30%.
My conspiracy theory is that the movement is not organic, that it is driven by the intelligence community for the purpose of identifying crazy people. And it has the dual purpose of funneling said crazy people into the largely benign activity of proving the world is flat, rather than some more incendiary activity. Mostly this theory is promoted by bots and other anonymous posters on the interweb, but that there are some actual people that have been part of the movement that I suspect are agency operatives. Specifically Patricia Steere, the former hottie with the sultry voice that used to post frequent Youtubes on flat earth. She has aged out of her hottie status and no longer posts Youtubes, in fact she deleted all her Youtube videos, and her only social media presence now is Instagram where she posts cat videos.
