My counselor explained toxic masculinity to me. Shockingly, I agree with her

For some context of how the topic came up: I told my counselor some poster online said "A woman is biologically programmed to be repulsed by weak genes, which is why a lot of autistic men struggle to get a woman"

My counselor said "So much to unpack with that comment. First of all, it's not true. Second of all, that comment is incredibly ableist. Furthermore, that comment reeks of toxic masculinity."

She then explained what toxic masculinity is. She said toxic masculinity is the idea that men are supposed to be dominant alphas (and the idea that any man who doesn't fit the dominant alpha stereotype is inferior)

I agree with her. The idea that being a dominant alpha is the only way to be a man is incredibly toxic.

Up until yesterday, I had heard the term toxic masculinity before, yet I never knew what it meant. Somehow I thought "toxic masculinity" was just some misandrist mumbo jumbo. I'm shocked I (upon finding out what toxic masculinity means) agree with the idea that it's toxic.

Well women are repulsed by autistic men.
The stats support this

My counselor said a lot of her clients through the years have been autistic married men.

And she said stats on how many autistic men are single are misleading because a lot of autists don't even know they're autistic until later in life.

That's cope.
NT and extroversion is the most important if your MTN+
Also these autistic married men are most likely boomers, gen x or millennials and dated + married in a time where social media, dating apps, promiscuity and the (un)naturally following oversocialization weren't as rampant as now.
Society's and women's standards and visions of the "ideal" man were different.
Even just like 10-15 years ago.

I'm a Millennial, yet never managed to find a long-term partner (longest relationship was 8 months)

I went to a speed dating event this weekend (and had a mild victory)

My counselor is evidently doing a good job with me.

she hates her hypermasculine ex bf

Certainly a possibility.

I don't know much about her dating history. All I know is she's an obese White woman married to a Latino man.
