first of all tazarotene mogs tretinoin since its stronger and it didnt irritate my skin as much but did make it peel a hell of a lot probably even more than with tretinoin

tazarotene didnt prevent me from getting acne but it did make it so that when i got spots they went away way faster - before it would take like a week or longer for a spot to go away compared to being on tazarotene with daily application the spot would go away in like 3 days

i used to think tretinoin saved my skin from acne but i think it was really just the fact that i had gone through puberty. i think i may have had some pie marks that tretinoin took away tho and it definitely helped me have a more even skintone which is just as important as having clear skin imo. but sugary junk food like a chocolate milkshake or cake will still obliterate my skin and make it go from completely clear to completely shit the next day

so if youre sensitive to sugar like me and want to fully obliterate your acne youre probably better off taking accutane and it will also likely make it so that you can eat freely without worrying about dealing with acne

tretinoin/tazarotene are still good for anti aging, hyperpigmentation, mild scars etc and ive seen a lot of anecdotal evidence on reddit showing peoples acne getting better while being on tretinoin so im not saying it doesnt work

Yeah, I wouldn't really discard tretinoin, it absolutely works to solve acne by reducing your skin's oil production and increasing cell rate of turnover, this is documented to occur, it does help! But yeah, you can't compare a gun to a shotgun, tazarotene and accutane work much better, but I believe that for the sake of retinoid adaptation it shouldn't be the first stuff people try.

Also, what happened to you with the peeling and stuff is normal, stronger retinoid, adaptation phase, yk the good stuff.

Thanks for sharing this—it honestly felt like I was reading my own thoughts. I’ve used both Tretinoin and Tazarotene too, and I totally get what you mean. Tazarotene definitely felt stronger but somehow less irritating on certain parts of my face. The peeling was next level though.

I also realized that some of my “clearing up” might’ve just been growing out of the worst hormonal phase. But I still give Tretinoin credit for smoothing my skin and evening out old marks. I get those instant regret breakouts too after sugar—especially chocolate milkshakes. I’ve been getting my Tret from DermacareHub.com lately—they’re reliable and have good skincare options to deal with the flaking.
