Why out of all things do my hair get darker eventhough I want lighter brown hair with copper tone ?

made a very short buzzcut few weeks ago and it is growing back rn. Went to toilet and noticed that my hair has become pretty dark. Especially when I took a closer look and compared the normal hair to the terminal (or vellus) hair on the hairline. The contrast was huge
