Imagine falling in love with a culture and dedicating years to learning their language only to be upstaged by sub-chad white dudes who just see it as an extension of Thailand. Everything Asian leaves a sour taste in my mouth now.
I used to brown nose Japanese customers hard but now I’m more inclined to ignore them or stick to English the few times that they approach me. The signs should’ve been obvious to me from the start—even before I went to Japan I’d been patronized and treated like a nuisance/creep by some Japanese people just for trying to assist them or be friendly. You could argue that I was “objectifying” them but I bet they would’ve reacted better if I were white
