The first recorded nationalism towards a nation was during the French Revolution
Before that nobody gave a dogs ass ofc large peace’s of land like France were under rule of one empire but ppl all around spoke different languages and would consider other ppl coming into their communities as foreigners
If u went back to the 1700s youd not find a soul claiming to be from a nation
After napoleon many countries took inspiration and by the time the Industrial Revolution began and brought things like news papers so you could know of everything happening at all times it became normal to be a part of a nation
