Need high IQ haircut/styling advice

Every time I go to the barber shop, I come out looking fucked up. What should I ask for to frame my face well? My only constraint is if anything, the sides must be trimmed a bit shorter to comply with regulations.

I HAVE to trim the sides, as in I’m forced too at its current length. Should I just ask for a light taper then leave the top?
