No. There have only been about 6,000 virus deaths in NYC, total for 2020 will likely be under 10,000.

And the point that most people miss is that the body count is not overwhelming the burial system. They are digging temp graves only because all Burials in NYC have been banned for social distancing reasons.

and we don't even know if this is the peak

the final number, assuming there is a final number, will be 14,000 and that's a very optimistic number. it will more likely be closer to 20k or more

That is all of new New York State. The Rikers Island article is specific to NYC. I don't know specific NYC numbers, just estimating 6,000 if NY State is 8600 deaths. westchester County is not part of NYC, and it is a hot spot
