HIDE AND SEEK
Vlad tipped the older fellow 25 sterling as a gesture of courtesy. The man obliged and took the money, without any words.
From birdseye view, the town was an oblong oval. At either end of the short sides of the oval were the common entry points where there were rarely any police men present since there were plenty in the central town circle just a few hundered meters from either of these ends.
Vlad had entered through the guarded gates at either long end of the ovular city. Conveniently, the further one was from the central foci of the town, the more shadowy and less regulated the sub commune.
He was near the Jewlery district, where many peddlers, prostitutes and gypsies stalked the night with their shuffling and singing
The wafts of wind progressively increased in magnitude as Vlad made his way to the center of the Jewlery district, blowing his pocket watch off onto the ground behind him.
He cursed “God damn it!” And immediately went back to search for it on the ground . Again, he cursed “God fucking damn it!”. He heard a faint yet stern yell from a nearby window scream “Shut up!”.
Vlad had an August Picard wrist watch. It was expensive, but more importantly, it was the only indicator of time near him as the central town square 1/2 a mile down the stretch is where the local clock tower was. And again he did not want to be witnessed by any police or other civilians patrolling that area.
The wind blowing from all directions now became overwhelming, so Vlad jogged toward an old Gypsy bar he recognized by the candle light that faintly shone in the distance. Maybe there he could get someone to tell him the time
