AMBUSH
He had never yearned more for the smell of freshly baked bread and perfume that anointed the scaling walls and towering celinings the name of home in his heart and mind.
The rain didn’t falter, though, so neither should he, he thought. The nasty thought of waking up with a case of the cold began to perverse the moment.
He slipped and straddled up the slicked cobblestone and soil.
Tracking his way, he again, began to hear the running footsteps of a beast now, too different from the steps of the charging policeman from near the town circle.
Then, a bark. Then two, then a babble of barking from up the cobble stone.
“They’ve had me!”, he thought. “They’ve got an ambush waiting for me, I’m found out. It’s over!”
