Keith Jarrett's 1975 album cover for his performance at an opera house in Germany. It is the best selling solo album in jazz history and the best-selling piano album, and he played on a rehearsal piano. It had all sorts of issues: it wasn't tuned properly, had broken pedals, and it had a set of keys that didn't even work. A repair team did what they could before the performance began but he ended up going on stage with a faulty piano. And a huge part about how he performed so well was because he had to occupy his conscious mind with "stay off that key" or "the petals dont work". So much so that it turned off his conscious mind and his subconscious mind was able to take over.
