I don't know too much about Hinduism to talk about this but from what ive read they practice some old form of animeism, ancestral worship and paganism which is very different from Modern day Hinduism

yeah it is different because modern Hinduism is based on Vedanta while their religion is close to Vedic religion/ancient hinduism which was based on Vedas.

Noted linguist Richard Strand, an authority on Hindu Kush languages, observed the following about pre-Islamic Nuristani religion:

"Before their conversion to Islâm the Nuristânis practiced a form of ancient Hinduism, infused with accretions developed locally"
