I live in NYC. I couldn't care less about how ethical it is, but what do you think is something I should be taking advantage of? My friend is trapping and bringing in around 1.2k weekly, and I just want to hear opinions from you all if there is anything I should try before I join him.

It really depends on your own circumstances. What are you good at and what do you enjoy doing? What certificates do you already have? Is your goal just to moneymaxx? Etc.
