The crazy old lesbian in the article that was married to the astronaut is the land whale sitting down.
I can't be sure why they get so crazy, but it probably is partly to do with that they never reproduced and are now past the point in their life that they can reproduce. I suspect the major reason though is that when they were young their crazy was suppressed by the constant validation they would get by both men and women, now that they are subhuman and invisible to everyone all that crazy stored up in a yet to be discovered by science crazy reservoir, is bursting out.
