"Facial Symmetry Retainer" (FSR)
A homemade device combining elements of mewing, posture correction, and facial muscle engagement, but with a DIY orthodontic/fitness twist.
Concept:
- The FSR would be a soft silicone mold or retainer (made from mouthguard material you can boil and shape) that helps you maintain ideal tongue posture and jaw positioning throughout the day, even subtly during conversations or passive activities like gaming or studying.
Innovative Angle:
- Unlike just mewing or chewing gum, the device could be designed with slight resistance ridges (similar to how weighted gloves work for boxing) to lightly engage jaw muscles.
- Paired with a protocol of jaw/neck/cheek exercises (like resistance band neck training + facial yoga), it could accelerate facial toning, improve posture, and enhance your mandible-maxxing efforts.
DIY setup:
- Base: Boil-and-bite sports mouthguard cut down to size (just upper palate, comfortable for passive wear).
- Customization: Small ridges or bumps added with non-toxic silicone to subtly activate chewing muscles without you consciously biting.
- Postural hack: Add neck taping or kinesiology tape on the back of the neck to encourage an upright cervical posture while wearing it.
Goal:
- Over time, it could hypothetically enhance facial symmetry by promoting consistent ideal posture and light isometric muscle work — kind of like passive facial "hypertrophy" while still focusing on habits like nasal breathing and correct body posture.
