Hitler never pretended to be anything else. He was a Lance Corporal, never awarded himself any awards or medals, and didn't give his closest friends any undeserved awards, either. Himmler never got even a Iron Cross, and was reportedly embarrassed of it. Stalin made himself ''Generalissimus'', the highest possible military rank, and awarded himself the ''Hero of Soviet Union'' medal. Mussolini was ''First Marshal of the Empire''. There are also various other examples out there.

Watch Hitler: Rise of Evil ngl. It's honestly a good movie/very mini miniseries, with a good cast. In all honesty, it paints everything but rosy picture of Hitler, but it is very good and underappreciated. It's definitely on par with ''Downfall'' as far as historical movies go. The ending made me shed a few tears ngl.
