Trust me it gets much better but I don't want to spoil it for you, all I will say is that the protagonist feels the same way because he obviously wants to be on the same level as his love interest. As even though she says she'll never use her authority on him he still won't accept it, he breaks it around chapter 1800 and the romance goes from 1-100 immediately is all I can say
