opinion on headgear?

I've seen lots of people talk about headgear recently, i am currently 17 and have a pretty recessed maxilla ,i am having MARPE installed in a couple weeks and I'm wondering if it is worth giving a try or if its absolute bs? i have recently tried to push the option of getting surgery as more of a last resort since i have no way from hiding it from people i know

Headgear should work, the sutures being surgically opened allows some forward growth.

You are 17, you will have to pull with more force to get results overtime

well I have a recessed jaw so I tried to get headgear but the orthodontist said headgear is completely useless when you stop growing, considering your a few years older then me I wouldn’t count on it working for you either.
