Ortho said he needs to make my malocclusion bigger

I had a visit with my ortho today to start treatment before i get bimax , and he said hell need to make my underbite (5ishmm) bigger over the next 2 years , i asked and he said its to give room for the surgeon to work but idk if thats really the case because it seems conterintuitive and my malocclusion is already huge.
Anyways if i got through with it im boutta look like a caveman for the next 2 years so no play sadly

It's called dental decompensation.
They make the bite discrepancy as big as possible so that the surgeon has as much latitude as possible when moving the jaws.

If the teeth are not decompensated properly then the surgeon is literally constrained by how much he can move the maxilla and mandible.
