Hello, first of all I would like to share some of my complaints. My upper right canine has undergone abnormal eruption due to the maxillary constriction, and my upper right lateral incisor is positioned behind. My upper central incisors are crowded and overlapping. In short, the problematic teeth are the upper right lateral incisor and the upper right canine.
The main cause of these issues is a traumatic dental injury I experienced in primary school. To explain further, I suffered a trauma to my upper front tooth, which resulted in a root fracture (crown-root fracture). At that time, we did not fully realize the severity of the situation and did not consult a dentist. However, the consequences of that untreated trauma are now malposition, abnormal eruption, and arch constriction.
In my case, the maxillary constriction has caused a midline shift to the right, which has also created facial asymmetry. Similarly, an ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat specialist) mentioned that my nasal bone has shifted to the left.
Now that the history is explained, I would like to talk about today’s appointment. My orthodontist recommended a mini-screw-assisted rapid maxillary expansion appliance. I am fine with that, but after the expansion is completed, my orthodontist mentioned that tooth extraction may be necessary. He said that either the first premolar or the second premolar could be extracted. This confused me, because I have been trying to avoid extractions. I previously visited two other orthodontists, and both also suggested extractions, which is why I came to this one. But now this doctor also said extractions might be needed.
I would appreciate if anyone could give advice on whether I should accept this treatment plan or how I should proceed. For reference, I am 14 years old and will turn 15 in three months. I have marked the problematic teeth below in case my explanation was not clear.
